| 500 Mile Challenge...
I personally challenge you to run or walk at least 500 miles in a year.
Stop making excuses. If you've never done a good amount of running or walking on a regular basis, I can tell you're already making excuses of why you can't do this. I don't have enough time. I'm not in shape. Walking/running is boring. Et cetera. You CAN do this.
Walking at a brisk pace is 4 miles per hour. So, even if you walk all 500 miles, it will only take 125 hours over the course of a year. Thats less than 150 minutes per week. How easy is it to make time for 150 minutes per week? Well if you just cut out some TV time or even record shows to watch later and skip commercials you can end up with a lot of time.
If you're not in shape, this is your ticket to getting into shape. Walking or running a mile burns between about 100-140 calories depending on your weight and environmental conditions. In order to lose a pound you must use about 3500 more calories than you consume. This means that if you are currently at a stable weight, just doing this challenge, without changing any of your diet could help you lose about 17 pounds in the year. Not only that, the exercise will help a lot with your overall health.
If you find walking/running boring there are several ways to help this. First of all is one of my personal favorites which is doing more miles on trails. Road running gets boring for most people but if you can find a good trail it can make the miles go by much more quickly and keep your attention better. You can also use an .mp3 player and listen to your favorite music or even listen to an audiobook.
